Monopoly® was developed during the Great Depression to lift the spirits of people going through a very rough time. The inventor sold 5,000 units, 250-million units have been sold since then, and the rest is history. Betty and Donald took a bath on the stock market and came up with their own great idea.
4) Who thought up the humorous company names?
Gene Deitch, an Oscar winning animation director. He directed numerous children’s animation films, including Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are.” He won the Oscar for Jules Pfieffer’s “Munro” an animation short about a 4 year old.
